Entry from: Rotorua, New Zealand Entry Title: "Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua" Entry: "Up at 6am so we could shower, check out and store away our excessive luggage bag before the coach arrived to pick us up. We must have been relatively organised for once as we were outside the front ten minutes early, where we met a Dutch person called Koen who was boarding the same bus as us. The bus arrived at 7.40am and our driver Trent (nickname "leftie"- best not to ask the origins of that particular nickname I think!) loaded our newly lightened rucksack onboard. We then spent the next 30 minutes picking up other people from the numerous hostels that are spread throughout Auckland. There we sixteen travellers in total today on the bus, so there was plenty of room for us all to spread out for the journey ahead of us. With everyone finally onboard, the bus climbed up one of the many dormant volcanos (Mount Eden), these are scattered throughout New Zealand, especially around Auckland. He showed us how we could identify if a slope had been previously populated by Maori people because you can see grooves in the hillside caused by the way they farmed the land. Although his statement that all Maoris that live in New Zealand are half-caste (true) and this made them similar to jaffa biscuits, brown on the outside, white ...
